What is this?

Let Freedom Run is our family's annual Fourth of July fun run. It's been a thing for 2 years now, which by the rules of tradition makes it a big deal. The course is a flat loop at South Lake Park. Bring kids, strollers, dogs, grandparents, and anything else that rolls or walks.

Things kick off with an opening ceremony we take very, very seriously. The ceremony speeches have been known to bring tears to the eyes of those who have recently chopped onions. After the ceremony, we run. Or walk. Or stroll. Or roll.

Afterward: coffee, donuts, and a medal for every finisher. Stay as long as you want. We'll play at the playground until America turns 300 years old. Or until we get tired and cranky. Whichever comes first.

Event timeline

  1. 8:30 Check-in & attempting to wake up
  2. 8:45 Opening ceremony: National anthem. Speeches. Patriotism.
  3. 9:00 Race! (Less than 1 mile)
  4. 9:19 Medal ceremony. Every finisher gets a medal totally made of gold.
  5. 9:26 Coffee & donuts. Tend to your pulled hammy
  6. END Disperse, nap, prepare for evening fireworks
